The Pemba team had the privilege of participating in Ronald McDonald House Randwick’s ‘Pay It Forward’ Employee Engagement Program through the ‘High Tea Party’ event.
Ronald McDonald House is a warm and supportive home-away-from-home for families of children travelling to Randwick for treatment at the Sydney Children’s Hospital. The House has 27 bedrooms, 4 units and houses 746 families throughout the year in what is often one of the most challenging periods of their lives. We were extremely impressed by the facilities, the dedicated staff and friendly volunteers who foster an environment that is so calm, supportive and social.
Our team rolled up their sleeves to showcase their culinary skills (or in some cases, lack there of…) to prepare a range of delicious afternoon treats for the families and children staying at the house. Over the course of an afternoon, we whipped up everything from homemade sausage rolls to chocolate brownies, Anzac biscuits and mini quiches. The team was just about the quietest that we had ever experienced, with everyone rushing around to deliver what may have been a slightly overly ambitious menu. All in all, there were some very happy people in the house when it came to us serving the goodies and we hope that this small act brought some joy to the families and children.
Ronald McDonald House is a true show of one of Pemba’s core values, Resilience. The resilience that the children and families demonstrate is incredibly admirable and we are grateful for the opportunity to have given them a small token of joy through the ‘Pay It Forward’ program.
