Ausreo has grown rapidly from inception in 2001 to take an increasing share of the $1bn steel reinforcing sector in Australia. Its growth has been largely based upon a highly efficient operating model, strong customer service performance as well as effective raw material sourcing via imports.
The team of four founders with 138 years combined experience in the steel industry sought a partner to support the roll-out of their “concrete supplies” branch network following the acquisition of Sydney Mesh & Steel.
Ausreo has continued to build its volumes while driving operating and working capital efficiencies to deliver strong financial performance relative to its competitors.
The business was successful in winning the landmark 120KT Brisconnect project and has grown its capabilities and market standing to establish credibility with tier one construction customers. In parallel to winning major projects, Ausreo has also opened 10 highly profitable service centres around NSW and Victoria.

Hastie Group
RMB invested in Hastie and in Austral Refrigeration in 2001 and 2002 respectively. A three-year ‘buy and build’ process followed, in which seventeen air conditioning and refrigeration businesses were acquired across Australia and New Zealand.
HMG
HMG started life as a small surface finishing shop in 1959. Today, they are a global leader in the design, manufacture and refurbishment of components and assemblies used in heavy industries. With 9,700m2 of under cover workshop floor space, their capabilities span engineering and manufacturing, blasting, stripping and inspection, surface finishing, assembly and testing, and painting and packing. Instant Access
Pemba Capital Partners backed the management buyout of this “corporate orphan” from the Rick Stowe controlled Devereaux holdings in 2006. Instant Access is now the leading hirer of aluminium scaffolding and is well positioned in elevating work platforms.
Pemba has supported management in consolidating its strong Australian East Coast and NZ presence through add-on acquisitions in Queensland and NSW.
InteriorCo
InteriorCo was formed through a buy and build transition that brought together a number of players in the Australian commercial interiors sector.
The group has grown revenues through geographic expansion across Australia and New Zealand and entry into new product categories. The company has become one of two market leaders in the $1bn commercial furniture sector and also operates in the commercial fit out sector.
In 2012 InteriorCo acquired its key components supplier in China. This transition has in-sourced significant value added and allowed the onshore operations in Australia to be focused on customisation and delivery. The China acquisition also provided InteriorCo with a bridge head to expand into China and SE Asian markets.
Acquisitions being targeted as part of the ongoing buy and build strategy in Asia and in Australia include commercial furniture agencies, suppliers of furniture to healthcare, education or hospitality, and manufacturers of architect and designer specified building products.
NDA Group
NDA has a long history and was established in New Zealand in 1894. Today the company has global reach and is a leading fabricator of industrial stainless steel, specialty alloy process vessels and heat exchangers. Key end markets include dairy, wine, food processing and chemical industries.
Since Pemba Capital Partner’s investment the business has completed a number of acquisitions which have bolstered its market position and geographic reach. With six companies spread across New Zealand, Australia and North America, NDA is the largest stainless steel and specialty alloy fabricator in Australasia.

Pemba Capital Partners invested alongside the business’ founder and management team. Pemba and Coverforce’s management are growing the insurance broking business via bolt-on acquisitions. Coverforce recently completed the purchase of a Sydney and Melbourne based insurance broker.
