Sreya - Meet the Pemba Team - Sreya Diddee

Nic Badings

Sreya won Pemba’s 2024 ‘Women in Finance’ scholarship. She is currently studying at the University of Sydney, doing a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Financial Mathematics & Statistics and Finance. Sreya has proven to be an invaluable member of the team thus far, and is a strong cultural fit with the broader team and the Pemba values.

What motivated you to apply for the Women’s scholarship here at Pemba?

Beyond the classroom, opportunities like this are a great hands-on learning experience – not only with developing technical skills, but more importantly, getting to understand nuances about the world that textbooks can’t capture. I would strongly recommend this experience to students keen to learn, and its been great to have the team’s support along the way.

What was your dream job as a kid growing up?

When I was (much) younger, I did entertain the idea of being a talk show host, as I have always thought it’s a great way to connect with people from all walks of life, and I do love a good conversation.

If you could have dinner with any three people in the world (past or present), who would they be and why?

  1. Immediate family – slightly bending the rules here in this not being a singular ‘person’, but family is something I personally value very highly. As 1 of 4 children, it’s safe to say it’s definitely ‘colourful’ in my household, but I love the banter and conversations that are had in their company.
  2. Lauryn Hill – I am a lover of neo-soul / RnB, so would only be fair to honour one of my favourites.
  3. My Year 3 Teacher – this was someone I both admired and felt supported by, so would love to extend my gratitude back in this way.

If you could only travel back to the same holiday destination for the rest of your life, where would you pick and why?

Iceland has been at the top of the bucket list for a while now. Beautiful pockets of greenery, plus the Northern Lights…couldn’t ask for more.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Follow your curiosity.

Book recommendation: A journal – very big on introspection!
