Rennie Advisory establishes a new Grid Connections service line, deepening its technical capability and establishing new permanent offices in India and Malaysia. The acquisition strengthens Rennie’s partnership with Pemba to build the largest energy transition firm in Australia.
THE PARTNERSHIP
Rennie acquires the Australian, Indian, and Malaysian licenses, capability and assets of Vysus Grid, a leading grid connection advisory firm. The partnership deepens client relationships and scales the business across Australia and Southeast Asia.
ABOUT VYSUS GRID
Vysus Grid is a specialist grid connection advisory firm, supporting clients at the mandatory regulatory gate between project development and energisation. The business has delivered technical advisory services across more than 280 grid connection projects and over 20 gigawatts of connected capacity, including landmark projects such as the Sandy Creek Solar Farm and the Hornsdale Wind Farm and Battery. Vysus Grid’s specialist engineers, based in Australia along with teams in India and Malaysia, provide connection feasibility, grid code compliance, power systems modelling, commissioning support and technology transition advice across the NEM.
BACKGROUND TO THE PARTNERSHIP
As coal exits the system, renewable energy is becoming the dominant source of generation in Australia. Delivering that transition will require over 100 gigawatts of new renewable capacity that will ultimately need to connect to the transmission network, requiring some of the most technically demanding work in the energy sector. Vysus Grid completes Rennie’s ability to support clients across the full lifecycle of an energy project, from strategy and feasibility, through regulation, financing and investment, to grid connection, construction and commissioning. The acquisition reinforces Rennie’s position as the largest energy transition firm in Australia and extends its capability into the deepest technical elements of renewables connection. It also opens new growth opportunities across Southeast Asia, where the same technical capability is needed as energy demand and investment accelerates.
THE VENDORS PERSPECTIVE
“For five years our clients have consistently told us that the technical, regulatory and commercial challenges of the energy transition are becoming increasingly interconnected. Developers and investors need advisors who understand all three. By bringing grid connection capability into Rennie, and establishing permanent operations in Malaysia and India, we can support clients from project conception and feasibility through to financing, connection, commissioning and energisation across the region. Together we meet clients at day zero and stay with them through energisation, now across Australia, Malaysia and India. That capability is rare in the Australian market and reflects our commitment to building the specialist advisory firm that the energy transition requires.”
SIMONE RENNIE, CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER, RENNIE
THE FUTURE
Rennie will continue to build out the new Grid Connections service line with sustained investment in process, capability and training. That investment is aimed squarely at where the growth is. Malaysia is emerging as one of Asia-Pacific’s most important energy transition markets, driven by strong economic growth, significant data centre investment, increasing renewable energy deployment, with developments in Sabah and broader sector reforms creating new opportunities for investment and cross-border collaboration. Across the wider ASEAN region, sovereign wealth funds, institutional investors, infrastructure funds and private equity firms are driving energy asset development, positioning Rennie to capture a growing share of the region’s capital flows into energy and infrastructure.
